Boys are back!

At some point this room, where the Joe's,
trains and games are packed... will be a wine cellar.

Black Walnut slab that our neighbor, Dick, gave to Dave
because he was tired of it being in his woodshop.

It is the most beautiful piece of wood you have ever seen.
Tom Lyman finished it for us.

Bathroom... I'm going to hang one of Dave's sugaring cans off a
tap that I'll put in the wood wall to use as a wastebasket.

Anyone know what this is?? It was like a banana slug... HUGE!
About four inches long, and half an inch thick.

Monday, around noon.
Five houses were lost in Jamaica.
Dropped in the river in area behind the store on that little dirt road.

The debris under the bridge is probably what knocked the bridge out.

Houses that fell in were down to the right.
Bulldozers were working to try and reduce the flow of water.

Beside the green house, (above and below), there was a red barn that ended up in the river. There's no trace of it!

Tom Lyman, who made all the cabinets left minutes ago after delivering our new dining room table. The table was originally Dave's grandmothers and we had Tom make a new table using the surface of the original table. It is beautiful and Tom's work is so incredible!

My 50th bday gift from Dave! Pretty amazing, and installed over the weekend. I'll be locked up in my office all the time--perhaps that's what Dave was planning all along! : )

Everything is beautiful, and it's hard for me
to believe that this is really our home. We miss Peregrine!
Still unpacking--and packing! We have way too much stuff
and are filling the garage up with another house-load of STUFF!

Every day has been like Christmas morning, and that's no exaggeration.
This beautiful piece of wood is a piece of reclaimed Western Red Cedar
from the West Coast (already on the ground).
Beautiful... 3 inches thick, 3 feet wide, 14 feet tall (originally...)
I wasn't able to get a good angle, but Tom Lyman
shaped it like the state of Vermont. Artistic design by David Thomas.

The wood has an oil rub on it for now
(I didn't clean sawdust from other activity off of it before taking pictures!)
and will continue to dry out for a few years. We'll be polyurethaning it in 6 months or so.

MOVE IN DATE a week from Friday!!!

Dave creating the fairway between the two Par 3's! Guys working on the house helped him make a contraption to pull behind the tractor consisting of chain link fence and an 8x8. Smoothed the ground out better than the real equipment could have. Of course that was because of operator skill also.

New furnace put in today. 1/3rd the size, 88% energy efficient vs. 60%... I couldn't budge Dave off the oil use. Wonder if we'll still have oil in 20 years... (ooh, he'll get me for that badgering)

Our late season winter storm. 12-24 inches wet snow that created a challenge for the crew to get up and down the driveway... Brian, the [fantastic] Project Manager has had actual nightmares about that big pine on the left, especially after a few of the big limbs came off in this latest storm.
We've found a Vermont Stained Glass artist to create a window for the 3 x 3 framed hole above...
They started getting into the brick of the fireplace which will be covered up by a new wood mantle.
New Front Door!!!
Location of these doors and windows have been flopped and an additional panel was added.
This is lying down on top of Dave's tub... I'm going to place a video camera up in the trees.

Windows were put in on Thursday. New doors are sitting on deck and will be beautiful. We are so excited!! Move in has been pushed back til July. Ryan was here this week and he and Dave were a huge help helping me with the emptying of my house!

(Jack & Jill for Master bath) Cabinets are being built by Tom Lyman, who owns his own shop in Hinesburg. This is our first sighting of his beautiful workmanship.
This will be Cabinet to the left of the kitchen sink, and below the corner to the right of the sink....

(Easter Weekend) Ryan sitting in one of the dormers that are being expanded.

This will essentially be the new entrance (Gateway to the New Home as Dave says). This platform and the posts are a new porch and there will be a new door installed. This picture was taken at 6:00 this evening... looks like good cocktail place.

Things to come... Weather was beautiful today. First real day of Spring and not a bad April Fool's Day....!

Guess the guys (no, no women on this crew...) knew it wasn't going to rain.

This is The Tub. Dave's Territory. We'll have to figure out a new water source for the 62 gallons of water it requires...

Progress being made.... eventually windows will replace the upstairs corner for Dave's viewing while lying in his tub...

Walls are starting to appear as they start the new framing.
New shower stall has been put in place on first floor.
The framing is up in what used to be the "Den", to develop a new side entrance, and a new office.
The sliding glass door in the dining area has been moved to the lawn side of the house.

Ceiling above ALL the 2nd floor rooms is gone now.

Everything is gutted accept a couple of the interior walls. The room with that lovely aqua color... is the former master bedroom. Ceiling is gone now and you're able to actually see up to the roof. They're preparing to blow the insulation in. The other room (without color) is what used to be Alysha's room. This shot of the exterior is a good "before" shot, as the face of the house will be changing.

To save some money on the project, we decided to demo the basement ourselves, and hire someone to finish it in the near future. Doug and Scott came over Saturday and helped. THANK YOU Doug and Scott!
